On September 13, 2024, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, in consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), issued a Quality Control Order that makes BIS certification mandatory for certain HDPE/PP woven sacks.
The objective of this Quality Control Order for HDPE/ PP Woven Sacks is to enhance the quality and reliability of packaging materials used in critical sectors such as cement and logistics. The QCO specifically covers:
- HDPE/PP Woven Sacks for Packaging 50 kg Cement (IS 11652:2017).
- PP Woven, Laminated, Block Bottom Valve Sacks for Packaging 50 kg Cement (IS 16709:2017).
- PP/HDPE Laminated Woven Sacks for Mail Sorting, Storage, Transport, and Distribution (IS 17399:2020).
Enforcement Date of Quality Control Order for HDPE/ PP Woven Sacks
This Quality Control Order is already enforced from 6th December, 2024 and after implementation of this Quality Control Order for HDPE/ PP Woven Sacks, manufacturers or these products are not allowed to manufacture and sell in Indian market without BIS Certification.
