BIS Certification for Medical Textiles
BIS Certification for Medical Textiles is mandatory as per the Quality Control Order issued by the Ministry of Textiles. Medical textiles, including products such as sanitary napkins, baby diapers, reusable sanitary pads, shoe covers, dental bibs and hospital bedsheets, used in maintaining health and hygiene. To regulate these products and ensure their safety, the Ministry of Textiles has taken this decision to make these medical textiles under mandatory BIS certification.
By getting the BIS certification, manufacturers of these medical products can adhere to the ISI Mark on their products with IS number specified the by the Bureau of Indian Standards. ISI Mark shows that products meet stringent quality, safety, and performance standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
Quality Control Order (QCO) for Medical Textiles
After consulting with the Bureau of Indian Standards, Ministry of Textiles issued a Quality Control Order on 23rd October, 2024 in the official gazette. The purpose of this Quality Control Order for medical textiles to enhance consumer safety and promote the domestic production of high-quality medical products.
Short title and commencement –
(1) This Order may be called the Medical Textiles (Quality Control) Order, 2024.
(2) It shall come into force on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
Timeline for implementation of Quality Control Order for Medical Textiles
It shall come into force on 1st January, 2024.

Now it is compulsory for the manufacturers of Medical Textiles to get BIS certification before the implementation date of Quality Control Order, without BIS certification manufacturing or importing and selling of these medical textiles (products) is not allowed as per the guidelines of Bureau of Indian Standards.
