FSSAI Registration

FSSAI Registration Process

Your First Step Toward Food Business Compliance in India

Every food business operator (FBO) in India — from manufacturers and distributors to retailers and small vendors — must obtain an FSSAI registration or license under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). It ensures that your business meets the standards for food safety, hygiene, and quality.

Our expert team helps you navigate the entire FSSAI registration process efficiently — from document preparation to final approval.

Types of FSSAI Licenses

  1. Basic Registration
For small FBOs with an annual turnover of up to ₹12 lakhs.
  2. State License
For medium-sized businesses with turnover between ₹12 lakhs and ₹20 crores operating within one state.
  3. Central License
For large FBOs with turnover above ₹20 crores or operating in multiple states or exporting/importing food products.

Step-by-Step FSSAI Registration Process

Step 1: Determine Eligibility
Identify whether your business requires a Basic, State, or Central FSSAI License based on turnover and operations.

Step 2: Documentation Preparation
Gather the required documents:

  • Passport-sized photo of the applicant
  • Government-issued ID and address proof
  • Business registration documents (Partnership deed, Incorporation certificate, etc.)
  • Proof of business premises (rental agreement or ownership documents)
  • Food safety management plan
  • NOC from local authorities (if applicable)

Step 3: Application Filing
Submit the online application through the FSSAI Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS) or the Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) portal along with applicable fees.

Step 4: Inspection (if required)
FSSAI authorities may inspect the premises to verify compliance with hygiene and safety norms.

Step 5: Approval & License Issuance
Once verified, the FSSAI registration certificate is issued with a unique 14-digit FSSAI license number, which must be printed on all food packages and displayed at the business premises.

Validity & Renewal

The FSSAI license is valid for 1 to 5 years as chosen by the applicant and must be renewed before expiry to avoid penalties or cancellation.
